If you are convicted of DUI, you will more than likely be required to enrol in and complete a DUI school as part of your sentence.  You may also be required to complete this drunk driving education by the state agency that issues your driver’s license.  DUI offenders are required to enrol in and complete a DUI school in order to keep their driving privileges.

DUI SchoolDrunk driving laws vary from state to state.  The length and type of school will vary from state to state.  Within your state, the type of DUI school you are required to attend may vary based on the facts of your case.  For example, drivers convicted with a high blood alcohol may face a lengthier and more expensive program.   So it’s important for you to consult with your DUI attorney so that he or she can explain the process of and what to expect at your DUI class.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GO TO DUI SCHOOL?

The cost of enrolling in DUI school can far outweigh the costs of not going to this school.  Often, you’re required to enroll in and complete a DUI program to satisfy the court’s order and its sentencing.  Failure to do so may result in a violation of your DUI probation.  Just as important, however, you are probably required to attend a DUI school so that you can reinstate your driver’s license.  The cost of DUI school can be hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars.  The length of your program depends on your state, your blood alcohol level, and whether you have had prior DUI convictions.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO GO TO DUI SCHOOL FOR?

Each state’s DUI school program is different. Additionally, there are different programs for a person convicted of a first offense DUI or convicted of a DUI with prior DUI convictions.  In addition, your blood alcohol content may affect the length of the DUI school.  A DUI program can range from 7 consecutive once-a-week 3 hour classes up to 18 consecutive months of weekly classes, depending on your sentence.  The attendance of these classes can be a real pain. The time away from your job, school, and family can be a huge inconvenience and the programs do not offer a whole lot of lenience for absences once you’ve enrolled.

WHY SHOULD I GO TO DUI SCHOOL?

There are many reasons to enroll yourself into DUI school.  Many enroll because they must:  the court will order you to enroll in a DUI school.  Most enroll so that they can have their driver’s license reinstated faster or to obtain a conditional driver’s license so that they can make it to their DUI classes, jobs, or school.  Sometimes, courts and/or the licensing agency offer these DUI classes as an alternative to paying exorbitant fees.  So by comparison – sitting in these classes and paying the DUI school costs is a far smarter idea than not going at all.
